Additional qualifiers for the Gwinnett elections
Additional candidates have qualified for this year’s Gwinnett races. Here is an updated rundown for the offices of note:
Commission Chairman: Buford electrical contractor Glenn Pirkle adds his name to the field vying for Commission Chairman. This sets up a three-way race between Pirkle, current District 1 Commissioner, Lorraine Green, and incumbent Charles Bannister in the Republican primary. I don’t know anything about Mr. Pirkle, but I have a gut feeling that the winner will still be either Green or Bannister.
District 1: Current Duluth Mayor Shirley Lasseter will run against Bruce LeVell and Carol Hassell in the Republican primary. I am not a fan of Mayor Lasseter for reasons I intend to outline in a later post, but I fear she has an immediate advantage due to name recognition from the Runaway Bride fiasco.
District 3: No change to the Republican slate of incumbent Mike Beaudreau and challenger Doug Stacks. However, Earl Herndon of Dacula has qualified to run as a Democrat this fall. Mike Beaudreau or a Democrat - that is like picking between John McCain and Barack Obama: who will do less to damage Gwinnett County? With a choice like that, why do I feel a write-in for George P. Burdell coming for me in this race in November? Maybe Doug Stacks will be a high quality candidate and surprise us.
